As with our Luxury standard end opening ottoman base, the lid is raised by a series of gas lift pistons. These four pistons are already fitted in place upon delivery, and you will only have to fix one single screw in place to complete their construction. These pistons are designed to stay down with the weight of a mattress in place, so you must bear this in mind when assembling or moving the base without a mattress in position. The pistons may also be quite stiff initially (and may even appear stuck) but will loosen with time.   This base will be delivered with spacer blocks to allow a headboard to be fitted without it crashing against the lid when lifting. This feature will ensure the bed lasts longer and does not require the headboard to be altered, but will add a further 4-5cm to the overall length of the bed.
