A Guide to a better night’s sleep

There are many things that can affect our sleep, whether it be difficulty getting to sleep or the quality. Here are a few tips on helping you achieve that perfect night’s sleep.

Waking up at the same time everyday will help get you the quality of sleep your body requires. Over sleeping by anything up to 2 hours can increase your chances of weight gain and can elevate your stress levels. By sticking to the same alarm clock every morning you are giving yourself a better start for the day ahead.Reduce your screen time before bed. By not using your phone, ipad, or other devices two hours before bedtime, allows your brain time to switch off as the blue light emitted from these will affect your sleep. If you have to, then try blue light glasses as this will reduce your exposure.

ALL IN ONE BEDS

Try to avoid eating two hours before going to bed as this can make you restless as your digestive system hasn’t had time to do its job, causing you discomfort whilst you try to sleep.

Avoid getting your caffeine fix at least 5 hours before bed. Caffeine will build up your adrenaline supply, meaning increased heart rate and improved blood flow. Making it a lot harder for your brain to switch off and get a good night’s sleep.

Increase your Melatonin at every possible chance, whether this be by daily exercising or getting sun exposure. Melatonin is a hormone that induces sleep. By getting plenty of sunlight you will also increase your Serotonin which we could all use a bit of.
